The ideal lifestyle for us guys is packed full of success, health, and fun. I never realized I first needed to look within myself to achieve this. I figured out that with a diet that works according to my goals and that’s based on studies and research combined with making small, daily lifestyle tweaks that make weight loss and having a lean physique sustainable made for a maintainable work/life balance every single day.
I knew I didn't want to be a professional bodybuilder to be that guy on a magazine cover or even the biggest guy in the gym. Following those bodybuilding routines while trying to eat 6-8 times per day, doing cardio 4 times a week, and buying a ton of supplements ended up doing more harm than good, wasting my hard-earned money, and further away from my fitness goals than when I started. Eating that often and eating those same foods contributed to my unwanted weight gain, making it that much harder to get my goal physique.
Now, my fitness journey began with swimming. To this day, I still have standing records at the University of Texas. Being conditioned to be fast and move through the water quickly, my naturally lanky body was ideal. But like most guys, I wanted to fill out my frame with some lean muscle, making my top priority muscle growth and retention.
Like most men, I looked to those fitness magazines you typically find at the checkout of grocery stores or on fitness websites for advice to get in shape and lose weight. That ultimately led me to a life of bodybuilding-focused and heavy weight-lifting exercises and workouts. After years of committing to this type of training, I did gain some muscle, but it was all still covered by the excess fat that I gained. I saw little to no results when it came to my fat loss and health goals and I started losing hope.
Blindly following that bodybuilding and heavy lifting workout routine more often left me recovering from injuries than enjoying the goal physique I sought. From tearing my ACL 3+ times, a complete quad tendon rupture, breaking my wrist, tearing both my pecs, broken fingers and toes, dislocating my elbow, and more… The time I spent recovering from those injuries made it look and feel like I was never going to reach my fitness goals.

I was supposed to be eating every 2-3 hours - DAILY - because supposedly that was going to fire up my metabolism and help me burn off more body fat and build muscle.
